12 schools from across the county took part in the LEGO League Cumbrian Finals last week, hosted at Lakes College.

The tournament required students to use their Design and Technology skills and solve a number of challenges, split into two key areas:

• The creation of an innovative project
• Programming a robot to solve up to 15 missions

Our innovative project focussed on the team's love of cooking, marshalled closely by VI Form students Alexa and Xander.

The aptly named 'Austin Fryers' presentation was well-received by judges who called it 'clear and innovative' - one judge was especially impressed with the laser cut iPhone which linked to a menu's website via QR code.

With their confidence brimming, our students' programming skills were pitted against schools from Keswick, Whitehaven and St Bees in a 'robot war' contest.

Our students fought intensely but were pipped at the post, coming away with runner-up medals for the second consecutive year.

Miss Stockdale was very proud of her team and coaches and said, “I was delighted by our team's performance. The ingenuity and programming skills these students demonstrated are the best I have ever seen - and if this LEGO team sticks together, the crown will be theirs next year!"
