We were thrilled to welcome Paul Simpson, Manager of Carlisle United Football Club to act as guest speaker and prizegiver at our Senior School Speech Day on Friday. With a motivational speech that touched the hearts and minds of the pupils and parents, Mr. Simpson encouraged our attentive pupils to follow their dreams, embrace their time at school, and become inspiring leaders in their own right.

The event was held in the School Chapel for the second year and was an opportunity to recognize the dedication, hard work, and exceptional talents displayed by the pupils throughout the academic year. Following opening remarks from Mr Harris, Mr Simpson took to the lectern. His inspiring words resonated deeply with the audience as he shared personal anecdotes of his own rollercoaster journey to success, as well as the stories of his 3 sons, emphasizing the importance of pursuing one's passions, adapting to changes to the plan, and enjoying the journey. He spoke eloquently about the significance of education, having explained he went back to education later in life, encouraging students to cherish their time at Austin Friars and seize every opportunity it offers.

Following his speech, Mr. Simpson then presented a range of awards to the deserving recipients. The awards recognized excellence across various disciplines, including mathematics, science, literature, arts, and sports. There were also awards for diligence, endeavour, and accolades for those pupils who most embodied the school’s core values of Unitas, Veritas, Caritas (unity, truth and love).

Following the awarding of the prizes it was finally the turn of the School Captains to speak to the gathered pupils and parents. The Head Boy and Head Girl summed up their collective experiences and fondly looked back at the memories they have made during their years at the School.
