We are delighted that VI Form student, Amy Bray, has been announced as this year’s winner, and the youngest ever, of Cumbria Women of the Year.

The Cumbria Women of the Year website explains why Amy was selected:

Amy’s passion for the planet and fascination with the natural world has impelled her to found Another Way, a conservation charity.  Amy has campaigned energetically on environmental issues, conducted awareness courses educating others, encouraged her school to enter the Back to School Plastic challenge, and advised local business on reducing waste and their carbon footprint. She has received wide support from leading conservationists and opened a zero-waste shop in Penrith also called Another Weigh.  All this began in school where she made “quite an impression” and expanded into the wider community speedily and with extraordinary success.

On receiving her award Amy said, “It’s incredible to be recognised amongst so many inspirational women in Cumbria. I feel I am only at the beginning of my journey and I hope that I can contribute even more in inspiring people to protect the planet. I am honoured to be part of such a beautiful and surprising county.”

Amy works tirelessly with her charity, Another Way, all whilst study for her A’ Levels in Chemistry, Biology and Maths with aspirations to become a Marine Biologist.

Another Way, the conservation charity Amy founded, has been planting hundreds of trees this week as part of National Tree Week. Our 1st Form helped to plant 160 Oak trees in Matterdale on Wednesday.
